Ken Burns Effect
Slow pan and zoom on a still image, making it feel alive. Named after the documentary filmmaker. Common in hero sections and slideshows.
Also called: pan and zoom, slow zoom, documentary effect
Still image, living motion
Slow scale + translate over 12 seconds
How it works
An oversized image inside an overflow: hidden container. CSS animation slowly scales and translates it. alternate makes it ping-pong.
- Keep movement subtle — 10–15% scale, few % translate
- Great for photo heroes when video isn't available
